How does the values test work?
You swipe through pairs of values for about two minutes. The algorithm learns your true core value from what you choose under pressure, not what you’d say about yourself if someone asked. No signup required.
What is a House?
A House is a group of people organized around a single core value, like Play, Zest, Strength, or Craft. Each House has its own feed, its own channels, and its own vibe. There are 484 of them. You belong to one, and you can join others too if you want.
Is this a political or religious thing?
No. Book of Houses is non-political and non-religious by design. It’s built to feel like Grandma’s house, where people came together around what mattered to them, not what divided them. Values like Courage, Play, Craft, and Honesty don’t map to any party or faith.
What is a Digital Shadow?
Your Shadow is a personalized AI that learns about you over time and quietly works to help you get what you actually want. It’s like a friend who has been paying attention the whole time, and because it knows your core value, it knows what to look for. Jokes, ideas, opportunities, introductions. It brings them back to you.
Am I going to interact with AI here?
No. We built this so humans connect with humans. The AI stays invisible, working in the background. We believe people should enjoy their lives with other people. The Shadow system is there to support that, not replace it. We know people are afraid of AI and the future that’s coming. We are too. That’s why we’re building it this way.
What is a Champion?
A Champion wins for their House by bringing fame, building things, and creating opportunities for the people in it. In a world where AI changes how status and earning work, Champions are a new kind of role. They go deeper into the tools, they build apps and companies, and their success lifts their whole House with them.
What is a Steward?
A Steward holds a House together. They organize, they rally, they run events, and they help the House develop a shared direction. If a Champion is out front bringing wins home, a Steward is keeping the home warm.
Is it free?
Yes. The test is free, joining is free, and your House is free. We’re exploring a model where every member can earn for themselves and their House through participation. Tools that concentrate power elsewhere distribute it here.
Who funds this?
Book of Houses is funded by the author of the Pudding Heroes novel series and the sales of his art. The project grew out of the novels themselves, as a way to help people see the world in a new way.
Is the technology self-improving?
Yes. The whole site is an autonomous, self-improving system that learns from its members and gets better at supporting them and their values over time. We’re seeing results as it grows.
